- Kalichak Gold Mine
The mine, which operated from the end of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century.
The largest nugget that was found there weighed about 8 kg. The gold-bearing placer of the Kalychak river (Kalychak mine) has been known since 1889. Until 1910, the deposit was mined using a muscular method by gold miner Nekrasov. In 1934-51, the deposit was developed and explored by the Zapsibzoloto Trust.
The total amount of gold mined, according to archival data, is 478.8 kg. The mine was located at an altitude of 1,500 m above sea level.
People lived and worked in extremely difficult conditions, many experienced oxygen starvation. It was impossible to grow anything in the vegetable gardens, because the warm season lasted less than three months, the soil thawed only by the end of June, and at the end of September winter was already coming. The products were transported to the mine by horse-drawn transport.
You will also be able to travel the way the mine was supplied, only on comfortable ATVs.
