Stone mushrooms
The stone mushrooms of the Akkurum tract (Ak-Korum - White Scree) are a unique natural phenomenon in which the sculptor's creativity and the playful fantasy of nature seem to have merged.
Stone mushrooms, as an artifact of nature, mysteriously decorate the valley of the Chulyshman River in Altai.
These mushrooms are not just rock formations, but amazing kurums that seem to live their own lives. The mycelium of these unique formations smoothly descend the mountainside.
These fantastic pillars and hats, at first glance, seem fragile and light, but behind their external tenderness they hide incredible strength and stability. Their formation is the result of centuries of exposure to water and wind on hard rocks, which have given these rocks unique shapes resembling mushrooms. Here you can see specimens up to seven meters high, and next to them are babies that do not exceed a meter. The diameter of the stone blocks reaches 2 meters, and the "legs" can be up to 1.5 meters thick.
The secret of the origin of stone mushrooms lies in the rock itself and its features. The effects of temperature fluctuations, the flow of water after heavy rains and winds, and weathering all play a role in creating this Altai landmark, and therefore the mycelium is constantly changing.
