Mount Belukha

The highest peak in Siberia. The altitude is 4509 meters above sea level. It is the dominant peak of the Katun Ridge. The Altaic names of the mountain are Ӱch-SӱMer — "Three-headed", Kadyn-Bazhy — "Peak of Katun".

The mountain got its Russian name due to the fact that even in summer its northern slopes are covered with snow on top of glaciers. The state border of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan runs through the top of Mount Belukha Vostochnaya.

The Katun River originates from the southern slope of Mount Belukha from the Gebler Glacier. There are two peaks in the Belukha Mountain massif in the form of irregular pyramids: the Eastern Belukha (4509 m) and the Western Belukha (4435 m).

The peoples of Altai have always been in awe of this mountain. It was not easy to find guides to climb the mountain, so the first successful ascent was carried out only in 1914 by the brothers Mikhail and Boris Tronov.

169 glaciers are located on the slopes of the mountain. The largest of them is the Iedygemsky Glacier (Sapozhnikov Glacier). Its area is about 13 square kilometers.

To admire the peaks of Mount Belukha, you can book a helicopter tour with a landing at the foot of the mountain.
